Welcome Spring! Detoxification and cleansing. How to use herbs.

Spring is the season of rebirth and growth, and for many, it brings with it the idea of "cleansing" to rid our bodies of the weight of a long, cold winter.

Our bodies have an amazing ability to cleanse and detoxify on their own, and how much more so if we additionally assist this natural process with common herbs. In traditional Chinese medicine, spring corresponds to the green color and the liver. That is why we choose green vegetables and herbs that detoxify the liver, which is greatly affected by stress and emotional disorders, which has the main function of filtering toxins from our blood before they enter the rest of the body. (Eden, 2008). Toxins in themselves are the substances that accumulate in our body when we are exposed to harmful artificial food ingredients, chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, etc. that cause an increased number of free radicals.

Spring for herbs and detox means green. As nature begins to develop its beauties.

A healthy starting point with herbs

Although it may sound cliché, eating well, exercising regularly, resting, and staying hydrated are essential for maintaining our body's natural functions. No cleanse will be able to undo years of bad habit damage, so keeping us healthy (through as many natural means as possible) is the best starting point for any natural program.

In reference some of the herbs we love for cleansing the body are dandelion, red clover, calendula, nettle, thistle, turmeric, burdock root, plantain leaf, and yellow dock root.

As we know, bitter herbs can support the liver's natural detoxification function, en-couraging the organ to cleanse the blood more efficiently and secrete more bile for digestion.

In reference, yellow dock root nourishes and enhances the natural filtration system, burdock root gently stimulates the liver and gallbladder, calendula, focuses on skin inflammation, and is also valuable for its detoxification properties and for helping the liver and gallbladder to cleanse (Chevalier, 2016).

Herbal support for the skin and lymphatic system.

Exfoliation and hydration are also excellent for cleansing and detoxifying the skin since our skin is our largest organ.  Incorporate herbal baths with Epsom salts, exfo-liation with natural products, and skin care with natural products containing herbs that stimulate the lymphatic system into your daily routine.

Small and simple things such as a beverage e.g., a detox beverage with burdock root, nettle, wormwood (bitter), dittany and meadowsweet or plain nettle and some boil-ing water... or detox tincture respectively.

You can search for the herbs that suit you and find out about them.

Have a good spring!
