Description

Damar is a typical gum secreted by Indonesian trees. Used as a vegetable resin or even in varnish, Damar would have soothing and air-purifying properties when burned.

A light, white resin with a milky finish, which emits a light lemony scent when burnt. In the Malaysian language, the word 'Dammar' means light and is a reference to the light fracturing quality of this resin. It also describes its ethereal nature. It is used to dispel the demons of depression and bring light to the depth of the soul.

In Malaysia it is used for healing and protection and to get in touch with the light beings.

Damar is dissolved in molten Paraffin wax in the batik technique of wax-resistant dyeing, helping to prevent the wax from cracking when it is drawn onto rayon or silk.

The Printing industry uses Damar in coloured printing inks. The Paper industry uses Damar to varnish paper because of its light colour and lustre.

The Art industry uses Damar as a varnish for oil paintings.
