Contains:

Organic Chaste Berry- Vitex Agnus - Castus

Part used: Berries

Medicinal Actions: Balances/nourishes hormonal system (women), suppresses sexual desire (men), strengthens reproductive organs (women), stimulates sexual desire, promotes progesterone, promotes/regulates menstrual cycle, improves breast milk yield, improves sexual function, antidepressant, antispasmodic.

Medicinal Uses: It affects the hormonal balance by interfering with the influence of the hypothalamus on the activity of the pituitary gland, which causes an increase in the secretion of LH and a decrease in FSH, thereby improving the activity of the corpus luteum and increasing the secretion of progesterone in the ovary.

This effect makes it the main plant of choice in the treatment of a variety of problems with a hormonal background in women.

PMS, secondary amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, menorrhagia, metorrhagia, insufficient lactation, infertility, polycystic ovaries and acne are among some of the conditions that can be helped with vitex.  The basic overall indication for vitex is a relative progesterone deficiency, or a relative estrogen excess. The intensity of its activity is moderate.

Warnings: Side effects may include headaches, fatigue and hormonal symptoms such as changes in the length of the menstrual cycle. Using the plant may increase spasmodic menstrual pains that are not linked to premenstrual syndrome, probably due to an increased effect of progesterone on the release of prostaglandins. However, for the most part, the plant is beneficial for menstrual pain related to premenstrual syndrome, or with menstrual pain resulting from congestion (congestive dysmenorrhea).

It is better to avoid using the plant in combination with progesterone drugs (intensification of activity), with birth control pills (for fear of reducing their activity), or with hormonal treatments.

Pregnancy: In principle, the plant is prohibited for use during this period, but it can be used during the first trimester of pregnancy to prevent miscarriages due to lack of progesterone.

Breastfeeding: Although the plant's dopaminergic activity may point to avoiding the use of the plant during this period, clinical studies have demonstrated a positive effect of the plant on milk production among lactating women (in low doses).

Chinese Angelica or Female Ginseng- Angelica sinensis

Part used: Root.

Medicinal Actions: Bile stimulator, anticoagulant, balances/nourishes the hormonal system (women), strengthens reproductive organs (women), stomach stimulator, stimulator/immune activator, estrogen promoter, bitter/aromatic, mild laxative, enhancer of peripheral blood circulation, improves breast milk yield.

Medicinal Uses: Used in traditional Chinese medicine to tonify, invigorate  and harmonize the blood in cases of deficiency. Is commonly used to support and maintain normal reproductive function.

Regulates menstruation in any cases of pelvic congestion or blood stasis. Relieves dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain (e.g. menstrual clots, uterine fibroids, endometriosis), amenorrhea, PMS, menopausal symptoms and infertility. Thought to “lessen pelvic congestion”, and relieve pain from obstructed blood stasis, also acting as a mild laxative.

Warnings:  The plant may increase sensitivity to radiation (phototoxic). Care should be taken when treating light-skinned or sensitive people when exposed to the sun or UV radiation. The plant may increase the activity of anticoagulant drugs and should not be used in combination with the following drugs: heparin, ticlopidine, warfarin.

Pregnancy: forbidden in the first six months of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding: the plant is suitable for use during breastfeeding.

In modern herbal medicine it is often used for the purpose of "balancing" the formula and "harmonious connection" between its various components, as well as to improve its taste and to protect the stomach from other plants included in the formula.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine is used as the plant that links and connects the plants in the formula and helps it to be absorbed and assimilated well by the patient.
